Upon looking through Millie’s work, one of the first things I noticed was her lovely choices and combinations of colour. Aesthetically I think the choice of pastels work well together, especially in the ‘Thames Water’ digital drawing, my favourite is the green and pink combination. Moreover, I love the interspersed use of a bolder colour such as black or bright blue and red.
There is a range of medium usage such as: digital, pastels, fine liner and crayons. All of which are strong drawings. Although, I also think in the future, including some coloured pencil drawings or layers of different media would be good and compliment the work. Furthermore, I love the use of the coloured paper and backgrounds, it’s a lot more pleasing to the eye than the generic white paper, particularly for this project.
I was very drawn to Millie’s oil pastel over receipts, I thought it was a quick and clever way to make the drawing more interesting and unique. Additionally, one drawing that worked particularly well for Millie was the digital of ‘Liberty London’. It’s unlike something I’ve seen before, and the crossing of the pink and grey layers is appealing. I think this could perhaps be taken even further by repeating it horizontally across, creating a larger scale pattern.
When looking at the variety of work, particularly the pattern, I can easily understand and visualise how each one would translate into textile work. I’m looking forward to seeing how you possibly develop these drawings.
